Who we work with

Water treatment and delivery

Over the past 20 years, we’ve worked with many major water industry clients, including Yorkshire Water, to help them successfully deliver major projects.

This has often involved us designing and supplying carbon steel pipework coated with fusion-bonded epoxy coating, which is widely recognised as the coating to use for drinkable water.

Waste water

We have a strong background of working with partners and clients to design and install waste water solutions for housing developments, industrial sites and other major projects in the UK and overseas.

Products we design and supply include half-bridge scrapers and a wide selection of drainage and sewer pipes.

Recently, we supplied pipework measuring 2,500mm in diameter and 25mm thick for the Thames Tideway Tunnel, London’s new super sewer which runs under the River Thames.

Other sectors

During the past 10 years, we’ve increasingly worked with onshore and offshore oil, gas and petro chemical companies, as well as various utility companies.

This has involved us designing and supplying a wide range of bespoke pipework and fittings and other essential components, such as staircases, platforms and structural steel walkways of many different shapes and sizes. Whatever the project, we’re positive we can create the right solution.

What we do

Design

George Green offers a full in-house service for the design and prototyping of pipework, machined parts and other metal components.

This includes the production of spool drawings and piping isometrics, a site survey service to provide 2D layout drawings, and the creation of 3D drawings and models.

Most of our design work is for original, bespoke products, so we welcome enquiries about any type of metal work and from any industry.

What we do

  • Carefully consider if we can meet your requirements and desired specifications
  • Meticulously manage the initial design phase to ensure there are no delays
  • Agree timescales that meet your specific requirements
  • Provide prototypes or 3D models, allowing for early collaboration
  • Produce engineering drawings and bills of materials, including supply chain
  • Provide you with full issue-level controlled drawings at the sign-off stage
  • Test final system and integration to your specified criteria

Fabrication

Our workforce includes fully trained fabricators and coded welders who work to the highest standards to make sure our fabricated metal products and structures meet all specified tolerances.

Our bespoke products are fabricated from a range of materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, duplex and super duplex stainless steel, and Monel alloy 400, to the individual requirements of each customer.

We also carry out dimensional, material and weld testing to ensure every one of our finished products meets all the required standards.

Our fabricated products

  • Booster pumping station, baseplates, motor stools and soleplates for pump companies
  • Bespoke pipework, flanges and fittings
  • Staircases, platforms and access ladders
  • Open mesh flooring, structural steel walkways
  • Pressurised storage containers
  • Whatever you need – please get in touch

Pipework

We stock a comprehensive range of high-quality carbon, stainless and duplex steel pipes, flanges and fittings, which allows us to start work immediately following your order.

We can fabricate any type of pipe, fitting or flange for you, and specialise in the off-site prefabrication of pipework and the design and manufacturing of modular pipework in sizes ranging from 15NB to 2,500NB.

We also have approval from the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) to provide flanged and screwed stainless steel pipework and fittings of all diameters and grades.

And our first-class pipework is also used by many other industries, including waste water, oil, gas and petro chemical.

Other pipework services

  • As part of our pipework fabrication package, we offer a comprehensive quality assurance and inspection service
  • We can like-for-like match carbon steel pipework for ductile iron pipework, or we can redesign original pipework to reduce fabrication time and costs
  • Submerged arc welding service that allows us to produce welded pipework up to 2,500mm in diameter, five tonnes in weight, and six metres in length
  • Refurbishment and renewal of boreholes, surface pipework, rising main
  • Bespoke fabricated fittings, including bends, duckfoot bends, lobster backs, equal tees, reducing tees, concentric reducers, eccentric reducers, flat top tapers, manifolds, bellmouths
  • Larger size flanges are available on request. If you require any non-standard flanges, we have in house profile & machining capabilities to make these to order

Bridge scrapers

We manufacture and install an excellent range of settlement tank half bridge scrapers that are suitable for tank diameters between 4 metres and 30 metres, and which adhere to the latest Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications (WIMES).

We can design our half-bridge scrapers to collect and remove normal or activated sludge and fit to any type of floor slope.

As well as solely supplying and installing a bridge scraper, we can offer you a package that includes the supply and installation of a scraper and associated GRP products such as launders, V-notch weirs and scum boards.

Recent installations

2020 – Gargrave STW 1 off half bridge scraper, Morgan Sindall / Yorkshire Water

2020 – Foulridge STW 1 off half bridge scraper, Morgan Sindall / Yorkshire Water

2019 – Wooler STW 2 off half bridge scraper, JN Bentley / Northumbrian Water

2018 – Pegswood STW Morpeth 1 off half bridge scraper, JN Bentley / Northumbrian Water

Pressurised storage containers

We design and manufacture pressurised transport and storage containers for the safe handling and storage of very expensive spare parts, such as turbine rotors and pump impellors.

These containers ensure companies have easy access to essential spare parts that need to be kept on hand for an indeterminate amount of time and which are often difficult to obtain quickly.

A recent project for us involved the manufacturing of a container with a pressure of 1.0 bar and a component load of 2,200kg. The container featured a nitrogen bottle attached to its frame to maintain and regulate the pressure and a safety relief valve.

We also designed the container so it could be stored vertically or horizontally, and internally it featured rubber-faced mounts to secure the stored items in all directions.

Installation

We deliver and offload products weighing up to 7.5 tonnes, offer a full installation service for anywhere in the UK, and can often mobilise our highly experienced fitters, engineers and welders within 24 hours.

Our installation personnel includes:

  • City & Guilds qualified engineers and fitters
  • Coded welders
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme construction workers
  • Trained banksmen for pendant cranes
  • Trained crane operators for rigging and slinging
  • Installers who have completed confined space training
  • Fitters who have completed EUSR’s National Water Hygiene training

Our facilities

Our workshop

Home to George Green for nearly 60 years, our purpose-built workshop in Keighley, West Yorkshire, is over 10,000 square feet (approx. 930 square metres) in size.

Inside, it features two overhead pendant cranes with a safe working load of five tonnes each. This means at the same time we have the capability to manufacture fabrications with a total weight of up to 10 tonnes.

Our workshop also features premium quality machinery and equipment for the boring, drilling, turning and milling of metal work. These include a Kearns Richards SJ100 Table Type Horizontal Borer, Webster & Bennett 48″ and 72″ Vertical Borers and Colchester Mascot 2000 Lathe.

Welding

We have vast experience of manufacturing components and welded assemblies of various sizes, materials and levels of complexity.

The metal welding processes used at George Green include MMA, MIG, TIG and submerged arc welding for an extensive range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Our highly experienced weld team are all coded to BS EN ISO 9606 and take great pride in achieving the highest standards.

Other equipment

In our workshop, we have the following equipment installed to help meet the all-round needs of our customers:

  • Industry coating solutions, including the application of Akzo Nobel Fusion Bonded Epoxy Resicoat R4 and lining with Eurokote 468 Thixo, which is approved by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) and Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS)
  • Non-destructive testing, includes dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and X-ray testing
  • Hydrostatic pressure testing of pipes up to a pressure of 60 bar, depending on the diameter of the pipe
